Nom

Charlemagne; a.k.a. Carolus Magnus, Carolus Augustus, Karl der Grosse, Emperor of the Romans, Charles the Great, Charles I.

Pays/Ville

Birthplace: Unknown.

Deathplace: Aachen, North Rhine Westphalia.

Details Personnels:

I am the founder of the Holy Roman empire, I fostered the Carlonginian Renaissance as the greatest ruler of the Franks and am the ruler of the Christian people, closest link to heaven.

Date de Naissance:

742.

Date de Mort:

January 28, 814.

Sexe:

Male.

Croyances Politiques:

I am ruler of the Franks by divine right. The government I rule is founded on feudal oaths of allegiance between I and my followers. In addition, I am ruler of the Holy Roman Empire, which includes the church. My word is final, and my power emanates through the counts that serve below me, who in turn rule their respective administrative districts or counties.

Croyances Religieuses:

I am a devout Christian, ruler of the Holy Roman Empire and of the highest rank in Christianity on this earth.

Situation de Familie:

  • Married to Liutgard, queen of the Franks. Previous wives: Fastrada, Hildigard, Liutberga-daughter of Desiderius, king of the Lombards.

Enfants:

My kids are named Charles, Pepin, and Louis. I don't remember the names of the rest. I believe there are 20 in total.

En Cherchant:

Technically all is at my disposal; I'm the king of the Holy Roman Empire. However, I'm primarily a family man, and remain loyal to my wife. I search for friendship and diplomacy within other neighboring kingdoms.

Metier:

King and founder of the Holy Roman Empire, ruler of the Franks.

Interets/Loisirs:

  • Horseback riding.
  • Hunting.
  • Leading military campaigns against enemies.
  • Spreading the Christian faith.
  • Incorporating Saxons into my realm and faith in any way possible.
  • Being immortalized as a hero of Christian Europe.

Accomplissements:

  • I inherited the position as ruler of the Franks at age 26.
  • Protected Rome from the Lombards from 773 to 786, extending my rule across southern Italy.
  • Saw my son annointed as king of Italy in 781 by the pope.
  • Conquered the Saxons from 772 to 804, forcing them to join the Franks in order to save their souls in the name of God and protecting my empire in the process.
  • Expanded my empire greatly.

  • Founding of the Carolingian Renaissance.
  • Being crowned Roman emperor, christmas day 800.

Education:

I attempted to learn to read and write, but made little progress as most people didn't know how to at my time. By the age of ten my father began to teach me how to lead an empire and direct military campaigns. I learned from the best.

Ouevres préférés de littérature et de musique:

Everything ever written to immortalize my kingdom and I. Specifically works such as The Song of Roland, which immortalizes my conquest of a buffer zone between Spain and Francia- a reassurance in times of peace.

Personnage que je voudrais rencontrer et pourquoi:

I want to meet God because I am His left hand man, second to Jesus. It is my divine right to do so. As the closest link to heaven in the Christian world, it would be fitting to meet the one I so avidly serve.

Amis:

The Pope, my family, all in my kingdom and all who are Christian and practice their religion as such.

Sports:

I love hunting and don't have time for much else, as I am too busy ruling my kingdom. I began hunting at a young age and it is a peaceful escape from the constant stress of war.

Citation Memorable:

Mon influence sur la Culture Francaise:

From the time of my birth, I was destined for greatness. When I was but a young boy, Europe was on the decline, heading into what one could call a dark age. Yet the era of my rule marks a turning point, a time of revival and reform. It was known as the "Golden Era", and i am regarded as one of the "9 worthies", a group that includes Abraham and Julius Caesar. As ruler of my Empire as well as the Roman Empire, I brough glory to both, and as a Frank -an early descendant of modern France- I brought this glory to France.

I am regarded as the "Father of Europe", and without me France may not exist. Included in the reform I brought to Europe is a change in style of lettering from letters that were connected to each other to seperated letters in a form that made it easier to read and to copy; this forms the basis for today's modern lower case letters. Without me our works of literature may still be primitively illegible, barring a great source of knowledge from modern scholars and historians.

With my Empire came a diplomacy that saw the Franks become allies with York, Italy, Spain, Germany and Ireland. Scholars studied in my court, mainly concerned with language and copying manuscripts. More than 90% of the works from ancient Rome that survive today are the result of translations completed in my Empire. Without these translations, almost all of the great works of classic literature would not be known by the world today.

As representative of France from 768 to 814, I created an unforgettable dynasty that remained an example for many kings to come. My influence brought reform to Europe, drawing it under the rays of the sun in a time where nothing but darkness could be seen in the skies above. I brought glory to the country of France, and for that I will never be forgotten.
