During my stint as president, the political, social and economic factors and challenges that I had to deal with (at home) included:

Political

  • My administration created two new governmental departments: the Department of Energy and the Department of Education.
  • In my campaign I stressed government reorganization, the reduction of unemployment, the continuation and expansion of government services, tax reform, and fiscal responsibility.
  • I was quite sensitive to and supportive of the demands of politically active blacks and women.

Social

  • Emphasizing my own virtues and my freedom from the sins of the past, and promised moral regeneration

  • Making efforts to demonstrate I was a "people's president," not an "imperial" one.

  • I put women in important positions in the government making them more prominent and campaigned for ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment.

Economic

  • Domesticaly the issue in terms of the Energy Crisis was the acual prices rising, i had to make decisions on what would be better for the country economically and finanincially sound.
  • Inflation during the time of my presidency was high and it influenced and even at times forced me to make taxation decisions as well as implement proposals to decrease the Inflation- during this time inflation was at a high of above 10%.This effect the proposals that I had to make inorder to reduce inflation. It also forced me to make decisions about taxes.
  • So many people were unemployed during my presedency and once again proposals were the way i atempted to solve this problem I constantly fed the dimming fire of unemployment in order to decrease the rate.

During my stint as president, the political, social and economic factors and challenges that I had to deal with (abroad) included:

Political

  • I championed human rights around the globe and was coldly received by the communist Soviet Union.
  • I put strong pressure with the United Kingdom and prompted new elections in what is now called Zimbabwe, which saw Robert Mugabe elected as Prime Minister of Zimbabwe; afterwards, sanctions were lifted, and diplomatic recognition was granted.
  • I also granted China full diplomatic and trade recognitions, further continuing what was started by Richard Nixon.

Social

  • I embarked upon an international campaign for human rights and I hoped the campaign would enable the United States to "regain the moral stature we once had."

  • I had to change the campaign on the global scale after the loss of the vietnam war to ensure no more war was waged.

  • I to go against the american public when making a decision on what to do about

Economic

  • The Dollar was decreasing in value during my presidency weeking the United States on a Global Scale in terms of economic standards.
  • As today during my presidency the U.S. was dependent on oil and with the middle east controling most of the supply Oil imports from the middle east was reduced and it hurt our economy.
  • We as a counry were selling less goods to other countries than importing from countries also hurting our indrustrial economy.

Looking back at my presidential career, I had to wear several "hats."  Wearing these different "hats," these were my most significant achievements and failures:

Commander-in-Chief

I  took control in the middle east and began the overall war on terror. The "Hostage Cricis" was one of the most scariest parts of my presidency as comander in chief i was respnsible for thest people. These workers were eventaly freed and i took control even though the Islamic Regime in Iran was corrupt.

Chief Executive

The "Energy Cricis" was another prolem i had to deal with during my presidency. The fact that energy was becomming very expencive it had to do with the decrase in imports from the middle east. I believed that most of the actual facts weren't comming out and the overall plan and implementation of ideas had to be changed because most of the information passed out was propoganda

Chief Diplomat

This was one of my major roles as a president. There was alot of dimplomacy that had to be delt with. The Camp David Accord aided in eventual peace between Egypt and Isreal, this was my major aspect in my presidency where dimplomacy was praciced at its fullest. The Helsinki treaty was another that promiced to respect human rights. America had lost its big brother image after the vietnam war. So in orcer to regain this i had to negoitate and become back on top as a contender in the world.

Ceremonial Head of State

During my time i was the biggest Boss ever in that everywhere i went i was the face of america. When solving problems in the middle east or even domestically i was the head. This ceromonial role also has a signifance. The immage i put out there for people to see was what the rest of the world characterized America as. My decisions ideas all directly or indriecly affected the view of worldwide citizens.

Manager of the Economy

Employment and inflation were both a problem during my presidency. These problems were not a quck fix there was a economic stimulus plan put into play. Even tax cuts were introduced to increase capital for business and stimulate the economy overall. The oil addiction America has now and had back then created a problem because of the middle east oil problem. I had to balence between these three tasks and ideas to atempt to keep the intrest of american citizens.

Party Leader

Although I did not work too close with the Democratic party, I benefited from its strengths and the weakness of the Republicans. In my run for president I carried nearly every southern state and several large northern and midwestern states, pulling back many Democrats.

National Leader

In the late 1960s there was a "leadership crisis," which was a deep, and serious lack of confidence in the leaders I had confidence that my own personal qualities could end the leadership crisis. Eventually people came to understand that the position is not flawed and confidence was restored in the president as a national leader.

Favorite Quotes About Me by a Famous Historian:

"Jimmy Carter is a Saint" - Hendrik Hertzberg

[As ex-president] "He hasn't just talked about housing the homeless, he has built houses for  with his own hands and has inspired and organized others to do likwise. He hasn't just talked about confronting the afflicted, he has mounted a little known program thorugh the Carter Center that is well on its way to eradicating Guinea worm disease... He hasn't just talked about extending democracy, he has put his reputation and sometimes his very life on the line in country after country, often with little or no publicity, to promote fee elections and expose rigged ones. " -Hertzberg

"He hasn't just talked about peace, he has made peace, or made peace possible, by using his moral prestige and his willingness to take risks..." -hertzberg

After my Presidency:

Well after my presidncy I still worked hard to champion human rights. I won the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1999 and the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. I also started the Cater Center to "Advance Human Rights and to Alleviate Suffering". I've worked hard at helping the world be a better place and won some nice things in the process ;).

A few of my various accolades include:

  • Gold medal, International Institute for Human Rights, 1979
  • International Human Rights Award, Synagogue Council of America, 1979
