Looking back at my presidential career, I had to wear several "hats."  Wearing these different "hats," these were my most significant achievements and failures:

  • Got out of the Vietnam War

  • "Watergate" Scandal

Chief Diplomat

  • Opened communications with China
  • Engaged in debates with Soviet Prime Minister, "Kitchen Debates"

Ceremonial Head of State

  • Tripartite Diplomacy: Japan, US, and South Korea had agreement to help defend South Korea from North Korea

Manager of the Economy

  • Wage and Price Controls

Party Leader

  • Tried to keep Republicans in office by understanding Democratic strategy... Watergate

National Leader

  • Understood war was tearing apart Americans, decided to get peace terms in Vietnam
  • decided to initiate Operation Linebacker to try to get the best peace terms
