Hello, my name is Catherine Deneuve.  I was born on the twenty second of October in 1943.  My mother's  name is Renee Deneuve and my fathers name is Maurice Dorleac.  When I was thirteen, I began to be more and more interested in taking up an acting profession and I decided to use my mothers maiden name, Denevue and that is how I became known as Catherine Deneuve.  My first role was in a movie called "Les Collegiennes".  I had originally not wanted to become an actress but my sister, Francoise Dorleac, whom I was very close with, truly inspired me.  She was much more outgoing than me and she really wanted to be an actress.  When my sister was twenty five, she died in a car crash.  This really affected me and I am still recovering from the shcok of this event.  After her death, I wanted to continue acting becuase it was what she would have wanted for me. I have appeared in many many movies and now I love acting so much.  I have a little secret to reveal though; I have never performed in theatre on stage because I have stage fright!

Convictions Personelles

I have many personal opinions that I like people to know.  To put in plainly, I am not a big fan of Hollywood because I don't like the lifestyle that comes with being a star in Hollywood.  I value my privacy and I like to keep my own personal, normal life away from the media.  I have a lot of respect for the directers of films because I think they have a lot of responsibility and they are what holds a movie together.  No matter how amazing the actors are, I think the movie will fall without a great director.

  • David Bailey

Mon Influence sur la Culture Francaise

All my life has been an incredible experience and I could not ask for a better life.  For 40 years, I have appeared on the screens of theatres world wide and I know that I have graced the audiences all over the world with the profound roles that I have played.  Since I am an actress, I believe that the major aspect of my influence on the French culture has been through the films I have appeared in.  Acting is the way I express myself and through my expression, I have influenced the French culture. Not only have I taken on the roles but I have become them and through my passion, I inspire the French culture, and many other cultures to pursue what they want to do in their life.   The tragic death of my beautiful sister Francoise Dorleac moved me to continue her dream of acting and this has motivated the people in a similar situation like me in the French culture to do whatever they want to do.  Through my films, I have gained a large French audience because I am French and impressed them with my freshness. I am lucky to be a French actress because in Hollywood, older roles are not common however, I have many chances to continue to act in films today that are often viewed and admired by the French culture.  I think an important point is that I have continued to act all my life and have not given it up which shows many cultures the beauty of following your dreams. Idol

Not only have I influenced French culture through my involvement with the film industry, but I have also become a beauty icon and symbol.  From an early age, people noticed my profound beauty and this inspired multiple French directors, actors and fashion designers to base their works around my look.  My interaction with modelling and the fashion industry has influenced the French culture because I am involved in such a variety of careers and people look up to me for this.  I was the muse of Yves Saint Lauren, a French icon who designed many clothes for myself.  He saw me as a fashion icon and having such a reputable designer making clothes personally for me added to my reputation, and made me a new fashion influence to the French culture.  My image is used to model the French Republic, Marianne through the French Ministry of Culture and this has allowed the French culture to look up to me not only as an actress but as an empowered female being represented by the national emblem of France, Marianne.  An important part of influencing a culture is being an idol to them and this is something I have succeeded in.  My image has influenced many cultures because of the variety of professions and due to this variety, I can appeal to many groups of people with different interests.  My acting career has mostly influenced the French culture because it has shaped people's views of the beauty and skill required of acting.

As an actress, there is of course a lot of publicity and media in the way of one's personal life, but I am proud to have been able to contain a somewhat normal private life.  I have two children whom I love very much and I think my role as a mother is a good message to people in the French culture that says having a family does not get in the way of following your dreams.  My having children did not have an impact on my career and I was able to be both a good mother and a legendary actress at the same time.  This has impacted the French culture becuase they can look up to someone who is both talented and is able to lead a normal, good life who also respects family.  Cultures need to understand that people can have an influence on the world while staying happy and healthy.  I have been a very grateful person throughout my life and I hope this has inspired cultures to see the good in people, even when there is pressure on them, for example, the pressure I face from the media.  In the end, I have influenced the French culture through the legendary French acting image I created, as a beauty and fashion icon, and an inspiration for others to follow their pursuits for their whole life.

This is really good, Nayla. I like how you truly understood your role as Catherine Deneuve, and thoroughly explained all of the facts. The movie clip of "Je Veux Voir" and the slideshow with pictures of her life really gives an insight into her. It is obvious that you really put forth an effort and this is really informational, as well as fun. -Calli Perry
