Details Personnels:

Bonjour! My name is Yves Saint Laurent and I have come to the conclusion in my life that fashion is my obbsession, and my infatuation since i was a young boy in Oran, Algeria.  My first efforts of fashion were when i was 17 years old and i moved to Paris to try my luck at theatrical and fashion design. Upon moving to France I won the International Wool Secretariat Competition for a cocktail dress I designed and was auspicious enough to have met Christian Dior, and was hired to work under him and he became one of my most inspiring mentors. As a designer I have created numerous amount of what are now considered Classic designs. I hope to leave a legacy of simple, elegant looks that will never go out of style.

Date de Naissance:

August 1, 1936 in Oran, Algeria

Date de Mort:

June 1, 2008

Sexe:

Situation de Famille:

My father was Charles, a descendant of Baron Mathieu de Mauvieres.

My mother was Lucienne-Andree, passed her sense of fashion to her son Yves.

I had two very lovable sisters, Michele and Brigitte.

En Cherchant:

I'm always searching for new ideas for my label.

Metier:

Ever since I moved to Paris, i have been working in the fashion industry. From the start of my career with Christian Dior, to now, having my own label, I can truly say that fashion not only was my career, it was my life.

Interets/Loisirs:

  • I've always had a rather creative mind, since i was a young boy, and my mother would always tell me that fashion is where I would eventually end up, and so I have.
  • I have a passion for the arts, particularly theatre. It has inspired me to design many stage costumes, and has always been my inspiration for all of my couture lines.

Accomplissements:

  • After Christian Dior, my good friend and mentor, died in 1957, at age 21, i was left with the House of Dior, and was the head-designer. My first collection for the House of Dior was in 1958, with which i created a "trapeze" or a little girl look.
  • In 1962, I finally opened my own House of Couture.
  • In 1966, I began my Rive-Gauche ready-to-wear label
  • En 1970, il retourne en Russie pour l'inspiration, puis en Chine, en Inde, au Maroc, au Japon et en Espagne en 1976 pour son Carmen de prêt-à-porter et de sa riche collection couture paysanne look
  • In 1974, I established menswear.

Education:

  • I applied myself to secondary studies, and earned my baccalaureat degree at the Lycee d'Oran in 1954.

Mes creations les plus populaires

One of my most well-known creations today is the Muse Handbag. Not so long ago, the Muse Handbag was set into motion in the fashion industry, I expected it to do well, but not only did it do well, it quickly became one of fashion's Classic handbags. The handbag is made with superior materials, and the inside is a satin lined interior. It is pretty large inside, so you can be sure to fit all of your necessary needs for your next shopping spree, and its brass lock and key ensures safety. Muse handbag's can be found in a number of exotic prints, fabrics, and colors.

Mon Influence sur la Culture Francaise

As a designer, my influence over French culture has been immense. I have brought new details, creations and ideas particularly to french fashion. Everything people wear comes from the creations of a designer. I have been credited with creating many classic designs that people around the world wear today. In addition, countless designers have recreated them. At certain times my designs and creations go out of style. However, at other times they begin to be in style, thus creating a chain of ideas and designs that will always be in the industry at some point. My inspirations go beyond just clothing. I take very dramatic elements like theatre and transform those ideas into the art of fashion.

Not only is the YSL label known in France, but it is also popular worldwide. I believe that I have left my mark on the fashion industry as a whole. I started from nothing and worked my way up to what I consider the top. From starting out with a small boutique in Paris, now, YSL boutiques can be found in France, Italy, Russia, Japan, America, Spain, and in many more areas of the world. I worked very hard to make sure the final outcome of every garment, handbag, and accessory was the best it could be. The praise I receied from my clients reflected the success of my creations. Although I had no idea I would have any impact on the fashion industry, I am thrilled that my imagination and ideas have taken me this far.

Something I always have incorporated into my creations is simplicity. Simplicity is something that will never go out of style. Of course, it is always fun to overdue some pieces once and a while, which I certainly have, but I love to make simple, black and white clothing. My clothing is something that can be worn at any time. Day, evening, casual, and formal, one can always find somewhere to wear my clothing. Not only do I have a clothing line, but I also have a variety of different handbags from which to choose. From my signature muse to the medium easy bag, anyone can find a bag that will go with any outfit and at any time. In addition, jewelry and shoes can be found with YSL. My accessories are known for being unique. Its the uniqueness of my creations that inspires the fashion of France. What I take pride in is that I can be unique, while still being simple!

Ivana - Great job on your page! I have always been interested in fashion and Yves Saint Laurent is one of my favorite haute-couture designers. I discovered some very interesting facts on your page that I was not conscience of before such as his passion for theatre and how it inspired his design label. Overall, your page was very visually pleasing and informative.

Ivana you did a remarkable job! The whole scheme of black and white is incredibly unique. But besides the appealing layout of the entire page I believe that the most interesting part of all of the research you conducted was where Yves Saint Laurent got his inspirations from such as theatre and art. Also, I love the quote that you put on here, its insightful adn also illustrates how he impacted the industry of fashin worldwide. Wonderful Job Ivana! Can't wait to get that muse bag!

Wow! I loved the quote and all of your information! I think that it was cool how he liked theatre and that it inspired him in his designs. Also, adding the photos/videos/pictures of his clothing helped to make this more like reading a magazine than just information, and it was fun! You did a really good job explaining how he influenced French culture. Great Job!
